Star Wars and SDI: Defending America and the Galaxy

A remarkable and informative special exhibition on Star Wars and the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) will open at the Reagan Library on March 15, 2024. The SDI was a program initiated by President Ronald Reagan in 1983 to help end the Cold War, with the media quickly labeling it as the ‘Star Wars’ program. It was developed to defend the country against a large-scale nuclear attack by utilizing space-based missiles.

This exhibition will feature original items from the SDI, such as the Command Launch Equipment Console. There will also be props, costumes, and other items from the Star Wars franchise. Both phenomenons transformed our country – both in culture and national security. Don’t miss this unique exhibition!
