Celebrating its grand opening this month, the Backbone Trail debuts to the community after 40 years in the making. The trail stretches from Pacific Palisades to Malibu along ridges, chaparral-covered hillsides and oak woodlands while crossing creeks and valleys in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. It is open to hikers, mountain-bikers and horseback riders.
The Backbone Trail has been a decades-long journey to preserve, protect and connect the parklands of this mountainous area while providing recreational access to everyone seeking connection with nature.
It’s because of the efforts of a dedicated community, elected officials, park agencies, volunteers and philanthropists that Backbone Trail has been completed for all to enjoy.
