King Gillette Ranch
King Gillette Ranch, a 588-acre gem in the Santa Monica Mountains, offers an unspoiled glimpse into California's rich natural and cultural heritage. This scenic parkland features a Chumash settlement and nationally significant structures designed in the 1920s by renowned architect Wallace Neff for razor magnate King C. Gillette. Located at the lower end of the Las Virgenes Valley, it serves as a vital wildlife corridor within the Malibu Creek Watershed, home to numerous sensitive species and a diverse array of plant communities that support various birds and mammals.
The ranch boasts some of Gillette's original formal landscaping, including a grand entry, a serene pond, expansive lawns, and the historic Spanish Colonial Revival mansion with its courtyard and terrace. The Anthony C. Beilenson Visitor Center provides orientation to the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. Visitors can enjoy a short, somewhat steep hike to Inspiration Point for 360-degree views of the surrounding landscape, including Malibu Creek State Park's famous rock formations. Other activities include strolling, bicycling, photography, and picnicking. Parking is available for $7; dogs are not permitted on site.
