This festival of Nordic cultures features music, dancing, cooking and craft demonstrations, lectures, vendors and activities for young and old. For one weekend in April, writes the Ventura County Star, “California Lutheran University is transformed into a Scandinavian wonderland.” For kids, the festival includes a Children’s Theater, performances by community children’s groups, and a puppet show of the Hans Christian Andersen stories. Each child can pick up a Children’s Passport, visit each Scandinavian country’s craft booth where the passport will be stamped, and receive a reward for visiting each country. A special treat, for young and old, is creating a decorated head wreath. Festivalgoers can visit an authentic Viking Village, as well as a Saami sliddastallan, or community gathering. They can try their hand at Dala horse croquet and play an ancient Viking game called kubb. Scandinavian food is always a highlight of the Festival. Lefse, aebelskivers and other Scandinavian favorites are available in the food court.
