TOArts Trailblazers: Mireya Mayor

This year TOArts has partnered with Changemaker Talent to present a dynamic group of speakers in the 2023-24 season of its annual National Geographic series, now called TOArts Trailblazers. This exciting 4-part series will include a remarkable lineup of renowned trailblazers who have pushed the boundaries in their respective fields and whose work reveals fascinating insights about our planet.

TOArts Trailblazers will be an annual series featuring a broad range of talents, including renowned photographers, scientists, filmmakers and adventurers sharing their behind-the-scenes stories from the front lines of exploration alongside stunning imagery and gripping footage.

Closing the series on Friday, May 17, 2024, will be primatologist Mireya Mayor. Join Mayor on a wild and inspiring romp through her unconventional path to success. From her early days as an NFL cheerleader to near-death experiences in the Congo and discovering the worlds smallest primate in Madagascar, Mayor shares her incredible experience with us. She was the first Latina field correspondent for National Geographic Explorer, then went on to host her own show, “Wild Nights with Mireya Mayor.” Now, Mireya stars in Travel Channel’s hit series, “Expedition Bigfoot,” where she and two co-stars traverse the backwoods of North America, searching for evidence and exploring the legend of what would be the world’s largest primate.

All events will take place at 8:00 PM at the Kavli Theatre, at The Bank of American Performing Arts Center and will feature gorgeous photography and exciting video footage, along with a rich storytelling. Following each presentation, there will be a Q&A session, and an audience meet & greet, providing attendees with the opportunity to engage directly with the visiting speakers.
