9 Things To Do In Agoura Hills With Kids

Posted on June 11, 2016 by Conejo Valley

You’ll find plenty of family-friendly things to do in the suburban city of Agoura Hills, a community that was at one time known as “Picture City.”

Reyes Adobe Historical Site

30400 Rainbow Crest Dr., Agoura Hills, CA 91301
The Reyes Adobe was built in approximately 1850 and is considered to be Agoura Hills’s first home. At this historic site, families will view different rooms of the home and get a sense of the way families used to live. You’ll see artifacts, furnishings, documents, photos, and more on your docent-led tour. The site is open on Saturdays from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Suggested donations are $3 for adults, $1 for children ages 5-12, and free for children 4 and younger. Bonus — on the second Saturday of each month, the Reyes Adobe offers free arts and crafts for children ages 3-8.

Malibu Riders

2903 Cornell Rd., Agoura Hills, CA 91301
To explore the beauty of the Santa Monica Mountains in Agoura Hills, let Malibu Riders take you on a horseback ride. Two different rides are offered. Each ride is about 1 hour in duration and is a 3-mile loop. Riders must be at least 6 years old. Check the website for fees and scheduling information and to make a reservation.

Malibu Riders

2903 Cornell Rd., Agoura Hills, CA 91301
In the 1920s, Paramount Pictures purchased 2700 acres of the Rancho Las Virgenes to be used as a “movie ranch.” In 1980, the National Park Service revitalized a portion of the movie ranch. Today families can go exploring and hiking (and horseback riding with Malibu Riders) on the same land that has been used as the setting in many film and television shows, including Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. NOTE: many of the structures in the Western Town were damaged in the Woolsey fire, but the ranch remains a beautiful place to visit.

Lindero Country Club

5719 Lake Lindero Dr., Agoura Hills, CA 91301
Don’t be put off by the name. You don’t need to be a member to take advantage of the facilities at the Lindero Country Club. Golfing families can take advantage of the 200-yard, 9-hole course or practice some swings at the range. Or, you can try “FootGolf” — a combination of soccer and golf. And when hunger strikes, you’ll find the Osteria Orto Restaurant on site. (The restaurant is open Tuesday through Sunday).

Chumash Park

5550 Medea Valley Dr., Agoura Hills, CA
This popular park has plenty to keep a family entertained. You’ll find a baseball field, playground, lots of open space, and picnic tables here. In addition, Chumash Park hosts free musical concerts throughout the summer.

Camp Keystone

2854 Triunfo Canyon Rd., Agoura Hills, CA 91301
Camp Keystone is much more than a popular summer day camp. They also offer swimming lessons, horseback riding lessons, and they host birthday parties with a variety of packages and options to choose from! Check their website for more information.

Art in Public Places

Download the map, and go on an art scavenger hunt. There are 18 pieces in the collection, including sculptures, murals, and paintings. Taking a drive and looking for these artistic treasures is another great way of exploring Agoura Hills and discovering some treasures of your own.

Agoura Hills Library

29901 Ladyface Court, Agoura Hills, CA 91301
The Agoura Hills Library is a part of the County of Los Angeles Library system. You’ll find a special children’s section here in this 17,500-square foot library. In addition, the library hosts a variety of special activities and events including story times, movie screenings, book clubs, and more. (They are closed on Sundays, and open each day at 10:00, except on Thursdays when it opens at 11).
